Big news: As of now, I am offering to send you a free, signed cookbook with every annual subscription, or renewal of an annual subscription.
I was on a walk the other day, thinking about where we are in this world right now, where I am in my journey, and what I can do to not only thank those of you who make my life possible, but also to make it easier to get my books into the hands of those who might find them useful.
Admittedly, the thrifty Scotsman in me had always hesitated to offer such a big benefit for a subscription, but this book tour has shown me that so many Americans (and probably everyone else) are tightening their belts, concerned about the economy and where we are headed. I know I am watching where my dollars go, so I am guessing you are, too.
To that point, offering a book with a subscription shifts the balance from you strictly supporting me to us supporting each other. Mutual aid, personal connection and community are the path through all this. This is a small way I can do my bit.
Put in raw terms, this offer means I earn less money off a subscription, but it also means that you get a physical, tangible benefit equal to about half the cost of that subscription: Basically, we’re splitting that money you send my way. I am more than OK with that because this community is worth it.
Are you in? Here’s how it will work:
Sign up for an annual or founding subscription — note that I can’t do this offer with month-to-month subscriptions — and send me an email to hank@huntgathercook.com telling me which of my last four books you’d like along with your address so I can mail you the signed book. (I don’t control my first two books, so I can offer them.)
If you get a notice that your annual subscription is set to renew, renew it, then forward that notice to me with your choice of book and address and I’ll send you a copy. (I can’t see who is renewing, so you’ll have to let me know by forwarding.)
There are a lot of other benefits to being a paid subscriber, including a free To the Bone sticker, so if you want one, add that to your email. Here’s a full list of paid subscriber benefits.
Also, if you sign up or renew before December 14, I will automatically enter you in the hunt raffle we’re doing for book sales. That’s a raffle for a free hunt, fishing or foraging trip with me in 2026. Each book counts as a “ticket,” so your subscription counts as a ticket. If you want more books, buy them on my site and use the RAFFLE code at checkout.
I can only really offer this to US residents, or send it to a US address because shipping overseas averages around $50 per book. It’s insane, and I hate it. I am sorry.
You can browse the books here, as well as stickers and merch.
So here’s my ask: if you’ve been meaning to subscribe, or it’s time to renew, do it now. You’ll get a signed book of your choice, a spot in the raffle, and the knowledge that you’re helping to strengthen this community.
I’ll take it from there— book in the mail, essays and recipes in your inbox, and content you look forward to reading every week. Are you in?
I'm already a subscriber, I don't see any way to renew at the moment. Does a gift subscription to someone else count? e.g. they get the sub and I get the cookbook, LOL?
Hi Hank! I am a big fan of Buck Buck Moose! I am a Kiwi (New Zealander) and I have been feeding BBM recipes to my family down here for years! If you (or any other readers) ever feel like reading some hunting stories from NZ, you might like one of these essays I wrote!
