What lovely vignettes of a country. Next month I make my first trip to Mexico, to visit friends in Sayulita. I’m trying to learn some basic Spanish with Duolingo but I know it won’t be enough for more than trying to say hello, please and thank you.

I’ll be trying to find the little local places to eat and try the local specials. I can’t wait to explore their food. Your recent articles have truly whetted my appetite for them.

The hair on the back of my neck absolutely stood up when you started talking about the woman on the plane! But then I loved the rest of the story. I wish that I wasn't so certifiably and dramatically language challenged. I would so much enjoy getting to know people while speaking their native language. Looking forward to your cookbook.

Oh this makes me miss Mexico so much!! Used to go every year with just a backpack and a very rough plan …. Now this adulting thing has started to get real and “vacations” tend to be spent helping elderly parents. Well, to everything there is a season I guess…. Anyway I’m still working on my Spanish, so tell me what does “No mames” translate to? I mean I get the gist of it but would love to know exactly when it’s appropriate to use!

This was a great read- looking forward to the new book (and more than willing to be a recipe tester).
