Let’s just get straight to the point: We have broken up.
As a couple. Not as business partners. More about that in a bit.
This is not really news anyone wants to share publicly, but we’ve made ourselves a public couple, and charades are tiresome, so here we are.
It happened two months ago. It was as amicable as such things can be. We’ve taken the space we needed to grieve our loss, and now it’s time to share what was becoming obvious to some of you anyway.
Some of you may be curious about the reasons and the details. Sorry, we will not be satisfying your curiosity. The end of a 21-year relationship is a painful and personal thing, and bleating about all the details publicly is not our style.
Though we haven’t been open about this in the posts we’ve written here for the past two months, those posts definitely reflect the journey each of us is on at this moment in our lives.
It should be obvious from the tone of this post that we will not be bad-mouthing each other publicly, but it’s worth noting we won’t be doing it privately either. Attempting to egg us on privately would be a bad idea.
(We’ve made one exception: Hank can continue mocking Holly’s OCD Dutch Virgo tendencies, and Holly can continue mocking Hank’s acumen as an Entropy Accelerator, because we did this to each other’s faces, and we think it’s funny.)
Now, as promised - the whole business-partners thing:
We will be continuing To The Bone together. We have really enjoyed having this outlet for ideas, and the incredible community that enjoys chewing on those ideas. And we still share the same ethos about food and nature.
Holly will continue doing some work for Hunter Angler Gardener Cook, but Hank has left California and is not coming back, so we’re not sure whether she will continue doing any photography for the site.
That said, Hank has a huge backlog of Holly’s photos, so you’ll continue to see her photo credit on new posts on the website for many months to come. And most cookbook authors do not have live-in food photographers, so it’s not unthinkable that she’ll do photography for Hank's future cookbooks.
Aside from all that (Mrs. Lincoln), we’re each going to keep doing what we do, and writing about it here. Thank you for reading!
I adore you both and am glad it's all out in the open now and hopefully everyone can just breathe...
Never met either one of you, but have immensely enjoyed the cook books, photography and writing. Wishing you well in your journeys and continued growth. As a new subscriber I am happy that the business side of things will continue.
